The Best

Dressed to impress I set out to best the rest
In this test that we call life. Stress
And duress are sacrificed to success,
If you can’t handle it that’s too bad,
So sad. Maybe you’ll catch it next time, oh wait-
Too late. The torch has been passed to the next great
This or that. And this, class, is the lesson for today.
That is to say, sit back and wait and you may
Just lose it all. Carpe Diem, seize the day,
Or you’ll wake up old and gray wishing you had found a way.
You didn’t, you couldn’t, you wouldn’t. But I will.
I have the skill to thrive, the will to survive;
Absolutely nothing can kill my drive. My passion
Is casting the mold for a lasting future. Nothing can stand
Between me and my master plan. I’m staking a claim;
I fan the flames of my aims with images of what I overcame.
I played the game and barely came out the other side alive.
Now I strive to arrive in the winner’s circle with my pride
Intact. Step back, I’ll attack if you won’t. I’ll go and you know
That I won’t throw any opportunity away. Not today,
No way, even if it means I have to stray into the fray
I will not sway. You snooze you lose as they say.
That’s not me as you can see; I know that nothing comes free.
If I want it I’ll take it and that’s that. No questions asked.
This my friends, is why in the end I will not only contend,
I, will, win.
